Improving hospital discharge for people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
Our new All Age Autism Strategy from 2023-26 will be published in summer 2024 and will help us to:
- Better understand what specialist care people need
- Improve reviewing processes and have more control over how care packages are developed
- Reduce reliance on inpatient care for patients with learning disabilities and/or autism (LDA), while improving the quality of inpatient care when it’s needed
- Increase the number of children and adults discharged from specialist inpatient units, with a particular focus on reducing the rates of black patients placed in overly restrictive settings.
Improving employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities in health and care
Our priorities are to:
- Monitor and report on how many people are with learning disabilities are in work, and how many opportunities for supported employment we’re able to create.
- Develop new supported employment and internship opportunities through our health and care partners.
Improving Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis and access to treatment for children and young people
Our priorities are to:
- improve how people who may be living with ASD are identified and offered the support they need, using and monitoring data available locally and nationally.
- Listen, understand and respond to the needs of users, carers and partners in creating and delivering a Lambeth All-Age Autism Strategy.
- Reduce the waiting times for an ASD diagnosis in children and young people.
Improving mental health for people with autism
Our priorities are to:
- Work with mental health services to improve the experience of people with autism.
- Make sure recommendations from the Evidence Review on Autism and Suicide are considered and adopted. And to make sure this work is reflected in Lambeth’s Suicide Prevention Strategy and the Lambeth All-Age Autism Strategy.
